Wedding Photographers Lansing MI | N+S City Hall

Natalie was looking for Documentary Wedding Photographers in Lansing MI kinda last minute. Although they live in Grand Rapids, Natalie has a soft spot for the atrium at the history museum, and her uncle has been giving tours at the state capitol building since she was little, so she always knew she’d want to say her vows in Lansing. She and Stephen had been engaged a few months, and one day while shopping at Old Navy (which is her spot), she just happened to find a tea length white dress adorned in a unique understated texture and she just so happened to try it on. The dress fit like a glove and something within her just knew.
She bought her dress, called her man and said “I’m ready, let’s do this.”
They were married a week later. They reached out to invite me to document the hustle and bustle of the getting ready process, the ceremony and some portraits after, keeping their intimate dinner completely private. I loved this plan, and how the meeting, engagement and wedding dress stories she told me recounted her perfect timing again and again…what she didn’t yet know was that I was originally booked for their wedding day and planned to head out of town… but on the very day Natalie inquired, my plans canceled… leaving me completely free to document their lansing wedding with love.
Her timing is, indeed, perfect.
Stephen + Natalie got ready and shared a first look at Natalie’s mom’s house, where we enjoyed locally made pastries and got acquainted. Nat’s sister, Julia, finished her hair and we caravanned 3 cars deep downtown to the Michigan History Museum where Natalie + Stephen committed their lives to each other with the glass mosaic atrium as a backdrop. We ended our time together with some flash free private portraits inside the ever exclusive Michigan Capitol Building in Lansing. Just the three of us were allowed in, so I opted to leave my second shooter at home for this wedding.
Quiet magic was in the air. For two people who are pretty logistics-first, fairly reserved, it was really fun to see them soften at the sight of each other during their first look in mom’s bright yellow living room. Visibly trying to keep their hands to themselves despite a clear longing to embrace, I encouraged them to break those fake “rules”. It’s your day! kiss her if you want to kiss her! and he did. GOOD!
